Abstract

A method of analysing qualitative interview data is outlined as a stage-by-stage process. Some of the problems associated with the method are identified. The researcher in the field of qualitative work is urged to be systematic and open to the difficulties of the task of understanding other people's perceptions.

When the mountains call: Exploring mountaineering motivations through the lens of the calling theory

Although the motives of hard adventure tourists represent a well-established research object, the theoretical foundations which can explain why experienced mountaineers engage in regular ascents remain under-examined. This study proposes that the concept of calling can help understand mountaineering motivations and explores its role on a sample of highly experienced mountaineers in Kazakhstan (n = 17). The findings of interpretative phenomenological analysis demonstrate how mountaineers view climbing as a calling. The findings reveal pursuits of novelty, re-lived climbing experiences and self-actualization as the inner calls shaping the meaning and purpose in life for mountaineering tourists. The study shows that, despite their risks, regular ascents enable experienced mountaineers to reach mindfulness, thus enhancing personal well-being. Theoretically, the study aids in conceptualizing mountaineering as a calling in life. Practically, it suggests that mountaineering can aid in achieving mindfulness and, if practiced regularly, regular ascents can help (re-)build emotional resilience of hard adventure tourists.
The study demonstrates how experienced mountaineers consider regular ascents as their calling in life. This holds important implications for management and marketing of hard adventure tourism. More specifically, tourism managers and marketers should strive to appeal to experienced mountaineers by highlighting the novelty of climbing itineraries. They should also emphasize how regular ascents can aid mountaineering tourists to re-live their climbing experiences, achieve self-actualization, and reach mindfulness. The study shows that, for experienced hard adventure tourists, the opportunity to re-engage may represent a strong inner call and even determine the main purpose and meaning in their lives.
Characteristics of good contraceptive counselling – An interview study

One key component in preventing unplanned pregnancies is to provide effective contraceptive counselling. This study aimed to investigate what characterises good contraceptive counselling from the woman's perspective.
A qualitative study with a phenomenological approach. Twenty-four women aged 15–45 participated in semi-structured, individual, face-to-face interviews that lasted, on average, one hour. Data were analysed by latent content analysis.
One overall theme emerged, person-centred contraceptive counselling – an interactive process, with three main categories: (i) a trustworthy healthcare provider, (ii) creating a liaison and (iii) the right time and place.
The healthcare provider’s attributes as well as what happened between the healthcare provider and the woman, and the surrounding context, had a bearing on the women’s descriptions of good contraceptive counselling. The process of the counselling was described as more important than the actual outcome; thus, healthcare providers need to be aware that this seemingly straightforward consultation is rather multi-layered and has great health promoting potential.

The pressure on the healthcare system due to the pandemic situation has exacerbated its main criticalities in terms of fragmentation, data management and lack of interconnections. There is a need to rethink the health system’s management and monitoring in a patient-centric view, in order to meet the growing demand due to extension of life expectancy and increase in chronic diseases. Innovation in technology enables patient-centricity by tying together the future healthcare system. This research aims at detecting and defining the main typologies and characteristics of innovative business models that are going to emerge in the healthcare context in the next years. Different data sources have been integrated to depict the future scenario of healthcare. At first, information available in reports, archives/documents has been analysed, in addition to conferences and 35 experts interviews available online. Thereafter, the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) - launched to solve issues after pandemic crisis - has been examined. The data analysis allows outlining the business model typologies that will emerge in the sector, their characteristics and the gaps they are going to solve with specific technologies. This research depicts the healthcare framework for pursuing patient-centricity, providing also managerial implications and future researches directions.
Defining the scope and content of mental health guidelines for community sport in Australia: A Delphi study

Regular sport participation can lead to several known physical and psychological health benefits. However, some sport environments may be contributing to the development of mental health disorders in participants. Elite sporting organisations have introduced several guidelines and positions statements to ensure psychologically safe sport environments, but these are often not applicable to the recreational sport setting. To guarantee psychologically safe sport environments for all participants, there has been an urgent call to develop mental health guidelines for recreational sport. To ensure future guidelines meet the needs of recreational sport environments, and are feasibly implemented, collaboration with experts is needed. The aim of this study was therefore to explore and synthesise the opinions of experts on the scope and content of mental health guidelines for community sport using the Delphi technique. Twenty-one experts from around Australia participated in two Delphi rounds, one qualitative and one quantitative, to reach consensus on key areas of future guidelines. Five key groupings were identified from the qualitative responses, which led to the identification of 13 key statements related to the provision of mental health promotion, prevention, and care in sport. Eight of the statements related to the role of community sport organisations in the promotion of positive mental health, and prevention of mental health problems. None of the statements were concerned with mental health care as most experts did not indicate this was the responsibility of community sport clubs. An additional five statements related to the responsibilities of the different levels of sport governance. Practical implications and future directions for the development of mental health guidelines for recreational sport are discussed.
